Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the police are making progress into their investigations, following recent attacks on armoured cash delivery services.

“Those brazen crimes have not gone unsolved, and the police have dramatically improved their investigative and intelligence gathering capabilities. Those criminals who feel that they are going to benefit from this robbery, that is not going to be the case, it will become your worst nightmare,” Holness said.

There have been two attacks on security guards from Beryllium in Portmore St Catherine that resulted in millions being stolen.

The first attack took place in February at a Jamaica National Bank at Portmore Pines. The incident resulted in the death of one security guard, while another was hospitalised. It is reported that J$10 million was stolen.

A few weeks later, another similar attack took place at a Scotiabank ATM along Braeton Parkway in Portmore, St Catherine. Gunmen reportedly made off with J$23 million dollars in cash. A security guard was also injured, but is in stable condition.

Police have since identified and charged suspects in relation to both incidents.

Gunmen also sought to issue a third attack on the armoured cash delivery service in St Elizabeth, but were unsuccessful in their attempts.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also expressed concern at the increase in criminal activities taking place in sections of Manchester.

“The police have been working overtime here, to try and bring this problem under control. I have been assured that resources have been mobilised to treat with the problem,” Holness said.
