A joint police-military operation yielded results in the violence-plagued community of Flanker in St James as two illegal guns and ammunition were seized on Tuesday morning (March 5).

The operation, which involved Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) personnel, commenced shortly after 7:00 am, focused on premises along Central Avenue in Flanker.

As a result of the raid, a black and slightly rusted AKMS Rifle, equipped with a magazine, and a camouflage 9mm suppressed sub-machine gun, also with a magazine, were seized from an abandoned building.

While no arrests were directly linked to the recovery of the weapons, one individual was apprehended while attempting to evade the operation and is currently in custody pending further investigations.

This operation follows the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Peter Johnson, also known as ‘Jolo’, on February 26.

Johnson, a wanted criminal with a history of serious crimes including murders and shootings within the parish, was living in the same are and was killed in an alleged shootout with security forces near a polling station.
