The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has launched a comprehensive investigation into a ‘mystery’ plane crash in the parish of St Elizabeth on Friday night (January 5).

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Coleridge Minto, commanding officer for the parish, explained that investigators are in the primary stages of trying to piece together the source of plane, its likely destination and the circumstances leading to its crash.

“This investigation will expand beyong the St Elizabeth Police. We have already made contact with other agencies to determine the origin of the aircraft as also to establish why this aircraft would have [crash-landed] here,” the senior cop said.

“The investigation is active at this time and therefore, we will allow the various agencies and the police to conduct a full and thorough investigation before we can make any other pronouncements surrounding this incident,” added Minto.

Police were first alerted sometime around 7:00 pm last night that a plane had crash-landed in the morass area of Braes River.

DSP Minto then indicated that an immediate search and rescue operation was launched, with additional personnel from the Jamaica Fire Brigade and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) being put on standby.

While no traces of the pilot or potential passengers were found, the three-hour operation unearthed the smoldering wreckage of the dual-engine plane.

Minto added that no other items, except for the charred fuselage were recovered.
