The police say that security forces have been working to maintain order in Spanish Town, St Catherine following the shooting of Othneil ‘Thickman’ Lobban, a top leader of the One Order criminal gang, Wednesday night.

“Despite attempts by supporters of the deceased to disrupt the area, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) have a strong presence on the ground and the situation remains under control,” the police said in a release.

Lobban was listed as one of the Top 5 most wanted individuals by the National Joint Anti-gang Task Force’s Assault on Gang initiative.

However, the police said he remained elusive and directed various violent activities and organized crimes in St Catherine, Kingston and other parishes.

The release added: “We urge citizens to remain calm and to cooperate with the security forces, as they work to maintain peace and stability in the area. The security forces are on high alert due to an extreme threat level, but we assure the public that we are taking all necessary measures to ensure your safety and ours. We will provide further updates as the situation develops.”

Minister Dixon says she is particularly disappointed by remarks from Opposition Leader Mark Golding who used a political platform to disparage the buses as “old” and proposed that school children be transported by “di likkle man who have dem pro-box and AR wagon”.
