In continuing tributes to Jamaican business stalwart James Moss-Solomon, who passed away peacefully this morning (January 4) surrounded by family and loved ones, the island’s political leaders have hailed him as a “true patriot” who has left an “unmistakeble mark”.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness, in a statement posted to Twitter, said: “My deep condolences to the family of prominent businessman and philanthropist James Moss-Solomon, CD. James Moss-Solomon was a former president of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, and former chairman of the Board of Directors of the UHWI [University Hospital of the West Indies].”
The prime minister added: “He is a founding director of the GraceKennedy Foundation, and in more recent years, lectured at the Mona School of Business & Management, UWI. He also served as chairman of the board of his alma mater, Jamaica College, and several public sector bodies.
“Jimmy has left his unmistakable mark in the business community. May his soul Rest In Peace.”
Opposition Mark Golding, in his own comments on Twitter, said: “Jamaica’s saddened by the untimely passing of Jimmy Moss-Solomon. A true patriot who put his country 1st, & genuinely cared for the poor & vulnerable.”
He added: “Jimmy was an active supporter of The Athlone Wing Hostel for disabled children at The Sir John Golding Rehab Centre. My condolences.”
