West Indies white-ball vice-captain Nicholas Pooran will be the beneficiary of a fat paycheque for the 2022 IPL season after he was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the league’s Mega Auction on Saturday (February 12). Pooran was sold for approximately US$1.43 million.

The Kolkata Knight Riders were also interested in the Trinidadian left-hander but SRH eventually won the bid that made Pooran the most expensive West Indian player in the auction.

Jason Holder’s exploits with bat and ball for SRH last season made him very attractive to IPL teams on Saturday when he was eventually sold to newcomers Lucknow Super Giants for US$1.16m.

Holder was in demand by several franchises including the Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and SRH, who were keen on retaining the services of the allrounder for the coming season. However, it was LSG, who won out in the end.

Shimron Hetmyer also went for a pretty penny commanding a winning bid of US$1.13 million from the Rajasthan Royals for his services. The Guyanese left-hander had a lukewarm season for the Delhi Capitals last season when he scored 242 runs at a strike rate of 168.05.

Meanwhile, Dwayne Bravo was retained by the Chennai Super Kings for US$585,000.

The Kolkata Knight Riders retained their proven performers Andre Russell and Sunil Narine for US$1.6m and US$798,000, respectively. West Indies white-ball captain, Kieron Pollard, who in the absence of the injured Rohit Sharma in 2020, led the Mumbai Indians, was retained by the franchise for US$798,000.
