Gay dating app Grindr crashed on Tuesday (July 16) after an influx of users scoured for hookups in Milwaukee, where the Republican National Convention (RNC) was being held.

Grindr is the world’s number one free dating app serving the LGBTQIA+ community, with over 13 million users globally.

According to Downdetector, an online service status monitoring website, over 1,000 users reported a Grindr outage in the Milwaukee region at about 4:00 pm local time on Tuesday.

Grindr users took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their complaints, one of which is former New York congressman, Republican George Santos who posted:

He also claimed that Grindr executives are referring to the RNC as “The gay SuperBowl,” however, there have been no reports from Grindr to substantiate this claim.

Grindr has been trending on X, formerly known as Twitter, since Tuesday.
