The body of social media influencer Aneka ‘Slickianna’ Townsend was laid to rest today (December 1), with family members, friends and supporters gathering to celebrate her 35 years of life.
The funeral took place at Webster Memorial in St Andrew, just five days before the fashionista would have celebrated her 36th birthday.
Family members and close friends of Townsend were all seen dressed in red, her favourite colour, as they mourned her untimely death.
During the eulogy delivery by her aunt, Arlene Gregory, Our Today learnt a few things about the beloved social media personality.
Townsend was born on December 6, 1986. She grew up in Waterhouse, St Andrew, as the second child of four children for her mother, Joy Smith.
In her early years she attended Marverley Primary School, leaving after six years to further her education at the Edith Dalton James High School.
Townsend was also described by her aunt as a woman who wore many hats in her lifetime, but she was particularly known for her superb fashion sense.
“She was a daughter, a mother, a sister, a niece, a social media influencer with thousands of followers, a fashionista, who many depended on for styling ideas, a business owner, an entertainer and a celebrator of life,” expressed a reflective Gregory.
Affectionately known as ‘Dumpling’, ‘Kayan’, and ‘Slickianna’ by fans, Townsend was also remembered by her aunt as a foodie.
“She laughed easily. It did not take much to make her happy. She always said ‘Once mi have life and mi belly full, mi good,” Gregory recalled, chuckling lightly.
But, most importantly, Townsend was remembered for her kind heart and friendly demeanor, shining and spreading her light wherever she went.
“In her short life, she has traveled to many countries around the world, bringing joy and happiness to all those she met. Kayan was one of those individuals who was not only blessed with outer beauty, but her inner beauty shone like the stars,” her aunt added.
She also described her niece as loyal, and trusting, always looking for the good in everyone she met.
“She had good intuition and was always careful about who she trusted. Unfortunately, someone she trusted took her away from us,” Gregory shared, fighting back her tears.
Townsend died on October 21, leaving behind her son, mother, siblings, other family members and friends.
The events leading up to her death indicate that she left Kingston for Montego Bay in St James on October 20, where she was picked up by Rushawn Patterson.
Later in the day, the two went to a restaurant, then traveled to a guest house in Hanover. An argument then broke out, resulting in Townsend being strangled by Patterson.
Patterson was formerly charged with her murder on November 11 and is awaiting his bail hearing, which has been set for December 15.
