Portmore United ended Cavalier’s two-year reign as Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League champion with an exciting 5-3 penalty shootout win at the National Stadium on Sunday.

The game ended 2-2 after regulation and extra time, and it was Portmore United who emerged victorious for the first title since 2019 and their eighth overall. 

Before changing its name to Portmore United, the then Hazard United had won the Premier League twice in 1993 and 2003. 

Then they relocated from Clarendon to St Catherine’s, the municipality of Portmore to be exact and won again in 2005, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2019. 

Portmore United eliminated Racing United before beating favourites Mount Pleasant in the semi-final. they strick first in the final courtesy of Ronaldo Robinson in the 3rd minute before Kimarley Scott pulled Cavalier levelled in the 25th minute and the inform striker who led Excelsior High to the Manning Cup crown struck again in the 41st minute putty Cavaliet in fron at the half time break.

But Tarick Ximines who scored a beautiy in the semi-final, popped up agan with another wonderful goal from outside the box pulling Portmore levelled in minute 60 as the game ended 2-2 in regulation time. Extra time couldnt separate the teams and onto the dreded penalty kicks where Cavalier missed their fourth kick allowing Portore to covert their fifth and claim the title.
