Despite issuing an apology and recanting the derogatory remarks made against the island’s chief prosecutor, the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) is calling on the General Legal Council (GLC) and the Jamaican Bar Association (JAMBAR) to take disciplinary action against embattled attorney-at-law Isat Buchanan.

The PSOJ says it condemns such a ‘misogynistic’ attack against the country’s DPP, who is tasked with leading the nation’s fight against criminals in the courts.

“The PSOJ calls for punitive and/or disciplinary measures against Mr Buchanan by the General Legal Council and the Jamaican Bar Association. It is essential that the legal profession maintains the highest ethical standards and action that undermine the dignity of the public office must not go unaddressed,” the country’s main business lobby said.

The PSOJ joins women’s lobby groups in condemning comments directed at the DPP by Buchanan during an interview with a social media blogger, where he quoted derogatory lyrics from the song The Menance by incarcerated dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel.
