Jamaican industry and the motoring public should brace for steeper costs for a second week running, as State-owned refinery, Petrojam, unveiled the latest update to its pricing regimen.

In its closely watched petroleum product price index, Petrojam has slapped a J$2.57 increase to 87-octane gasolene prices, effective Thursday (September 21), to open at a new baseline of J$193.64 per litre after applied taxes.

Volatility continues to beset the refinery, as prices trend upwards for a second consecutive week, with pump costs still fixed at their highest rates since October 2022.

The price raise was consistent across all commodities this week, particularly automotive diesel, and its ultra-low sulphur variant, which each rose J$4.50 and J$4.30 respectively.

It is expected that retailers will add their mark-ups to the announced prices.

The virus spread undetected for weeks after the first known death as authorities tested for a more common type of Ebola and came up negative, health experts and aid workers said.
