Prick charged after machete attack following dispute

Fifty-two-year-old farmer Cleveland Hird, also known as ‘Prick’, has been charged after chopping a man in a machete attack in his community.

Hird, who is of Gibraltar Heights, Annotto Bay, St Mary, was charged on Saturday with wounding with intent.

The Annotto Bay police report that about 5:30 pm on Tuesday, September 16, a dispute erupted between Hird and another man after the man was accused of roping cows on a portion of land that Hird was managing.

According to reports, during the confrontation, the man struck Hird with a piece of steel before being repeatedly chopped by Hird with a machete. 

The injured man was transported to hospital, where he was admitted.

Following the incident, a report was made to the police. Hird was taken into custody. 

He was charged on Saturday, September 21, after a question-and-answer session.

His court date is being finalised.
