Prime Minister Andrew Holness has expressed his appreciation for Donald Wehby, the CEO of GraceKennedy Limited, following his resignation from the Jamaican Senate on November 7.
In a statement from Jamaica House, Holness praised Wehby as a steadfast advocate for the Jamaican people, highlighting his invaluable contributions in bringing commercial and entrepreneurial insights into the legislative process.
Wehby, who was appointed to the Senate in September 2007, served as minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service for two years.
During his time in the Upper House, he championed policies aimed at achieving shared prosperity, economic stability, and sustainable development for Jamaica.
Holness noted that Wehby’s presence was instrumental in shaping policies that not only aligned with the government’s economic goals but also represented the interests of the Jamaican people.
“Senator Wehby has been a steadfast advocate for the needs of the Jamaican people, bringing invaluable commercial and entrepreneurial insights into the legislative process. Throughout his tenure, he has championed policies that reflect his commitment to shared prosperity, economic stability, and sustainable national development,” Holness said.
“Don’s presence in the Senate has been instrumental in shaping policies that support both our economic goals and the interests of the Jamaican people. His contributions have brought a unique private sector perspective to national governance, ensuring the administration’s approach remains balanced and forward-looking,” Holness added.
Holness also conveyed the government’s sadness at Wehby’s departure and extended well wishes for his health and recovery, as the resignation is linked to health-related concerns. “We are deeply saddened by his departure. On behalf of the people and the government of Jamaica, I thank Senator Wehby for his contribution to the Senate and wish him a speedy recovery,” Holness stated.
The prime minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that Jamaica’s governance reflects diverse voices and expertise, which will continue to shape policies that promote national prosperity.
