Despite what appears to be a strained relationship between the Royal Family and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle have been officially invited to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, which will be held next month.

Confirmation was made today (May 6) by the couple’s spokesperson, shortly after plans were announced for the highly anticipated event.

“Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are excited and honoured to attend The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations this June with their children,” the spokesperson reported to CNN.

This will be the first time the Queen will be meeting her granddaughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

Although the couple will be in attendance, they will not be allowed to make an appearance at the famous Buckingham Palace balcony during the Trooping the Colour Parade, as, in 2020, after splitting from the royal family, they were stripped of their titles.

Only royals who are carrying out official duties will be able to appear on the balcony at the Trooping the Colour Parade, which kick starts the ceremony on June 2.

Like the Duke and Duchess, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, will not make an appearance at the Buckingham Palace Balcony. Prince Andrew, the third child of the Queen, was also stripped of his title in the wake of sexual assault allegations, and suffered a tarnished reputation from his reportedly close-knit relationship with convicted paedophile, the late Jeffrey Epstein.

The Queen will be joined by her other three children, Charles, Prince of Wales; Prince Edward, Earl of Sussex and Anne, Princess Royal.

Although reports are that the queen is “looking forward” to the upcoming event, her attendance is yet to be confirmed, as Her Majesty has been suffering ongoing health issues.

Speaking to CNN, a spokesperson shared that, “her presence will not be confirmed until much nearer the time or on the day itself”.

Now 96, the Queen in recent times has suffered mobility issues, contracted COVID earlier this year and missed several public appearances.

The Jubilee will run from June 2 through to June 5. The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after seven decades of service.
