Several agencies in the Cayman Islands have launched a probe after a air passenger arrived in the island from Jamaica despite testing positive for COVID-19.

The breach is being investigated by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) with plans underway to send the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Reports are that on September 9 a passenger who had tested positive for COVID-19 was allowed to board a Cayman Airways flight at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.

Upon arrival in Grand Cayman, a Customs and Border Control officer discovered the breach when the passenger presented a positive COVID-19 test result.

The passenger was later placed in government quarantine.

Airline officials have so far been unable to explain the breach, with Cayman Airways president and CEO Fabian Whorms noting that the incident “was very surprising”.
