The film Sweet Yellow Heart is all things local through and through: from storyline to its location, characters and even production.

Centred on a family matriarch who seeks to find a way to reconnect with her grandson, after revealing a devastating family secret, the film was shot in Porus, Manchester, depicting a rural Jamaica against the backdrop of the life-giving of a breadfruit tree in the yard.

Creatively spun, the “yellow heart” is significant.

“Jamaicans distinguish breadfruit types by their colour of its inner flesh, which is mainly yellow or white; Breadfruit with the yellow inner flesh is commonly called “yellow heart” and is the preferred breadfruit in the market because of its sweet taste. Because of this, we made this the main characters’ favourite type and it flowed into becoming the name of the film,” shared Alex Morrissey, executive producer and director of ESIROM.

“I was excited to fulfil this project with ESIROM who gave me a shot at furthering my goals just last year. We filmed in 2020 and it’s been an amazing ride getting the film ready for viewing.”

The production of the film was done by multi-award winning digital media agency, Encouraging Social Influence; Redefining Online Marketing (ESIROM) and directed by one of its Sama-Sama Fellowship recipients and filmmakers, Danielle Russell.

“I was excited to fulfil this project with ESIROM who gave me a shot at furthering my goals just last year. We filmed in 2020 and it’s been an amazing ride getting the film ready for viewing,” said Russell.
