

Promoted Racing United continued to surge towards a top-six playoff spot with an exciting 3-2 win over Molynes United at Ferdie Neita Park while Humble Lion remained the firm favourite to be relegated.
Racing United, which is based next door to Caymanas Park, in St Catherine have won their eighth games from 26 matches with 10 draws and eight defeats to be in seventh spot on 34 points.
Nickyle Ellis netted twice for Racing, scoring in the 35th and 47th minutes after Stevaughn Spence had given them a 6th-minute lead.
The Anthony Patrick-coach unit is just three points off a playoff spot in this their first year in top-flight football. “We are eyeing a top six and if it is not there, then we’ll solidify ourselves in the league,” said Patrick who led St Catherine High to the Manning Cup finals.
“We are doing well so far. The youngsters are really, really doing well. Thumbs up to the youngsters here today,” he noted. While Racing are charging towards the playoffs, Molynes United are heading toward a relegation battle sitting in 11th spot on 23 points, just four points above the dreaded zone.
Peter McGregor 53rd and Marlon Pennicooke 75th replied for Molynes United which was suffering their 15th defeat of the season, the most of all clubs.
Meanwhile, Humble Lion’s survival in top-flight football took another blow as they crashed 2-3 to home team Dunbeholden FC. Goals by Devonti Hodges (49th), Dean Andre Thomas 53rd and Dwight Merrick 58th pushed Dunbeholden to ninth win on 32 points and still in with a shout of making the top six playoffs.
Stephen Barnett 23rd and Deonjay Brown 74th replied for Humble Lion but they remained firmly at the bottom in 14th spot on 18 points. They are four points adrift of safety. In the first game at Drewsland, Cavalier came from behind to beat Chapelton Maroons 2-1 and maintained fourth spot on 44 points.
Neshawn Bennett had given Chapelton a 25th-minute lead but Jalmaro Calvin (69th) and Shaquille Stein (83rd) responded for the Caribbean champions. The promoted Chapelton remained in 12th spot on 22 points, sitting dangerously above the relegation zone and looking over their shoulders nervously.
In the feature encounter at Drewsland, home team Waterhouse FC edged Portmore United 1-0 courtesy of an Andre Fletcher strike in the 40th minute to be sixth spot on 37 points. Portmore United which was suffering their fifth defeat of the season, are in fifth spot on 43 points and looking good for a playoff spot.
In the only drawn game of the round on Sunday, Harbour View rallied from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium. Two early goals by Alton Lewis in the fifth minute with a beautiful strike from just outside the box before Anthony Nelson doubled the advantage in the 15th minute with an even better strike after dispossessing Trayvone Reid and unleashed a powerful shot from 25 metres out that stunned the small gathering at the Compound.
But the Stars of the East never yielded as Chidalu Chukwuemeka pulled one back in the 50th minute with a powerful shot from 25 metres before Trayvone Reid in the 71st minute pulled them level from the penalty spot.
Harbour View remained in 10th spot on 24 points while Tivoli Gardens have their eyes on sneaking into the payoffs sitting in eighth position with 32 points, five points adrift of the top six.
The competition continues on Monday night with a double-header at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex.
At 5:00 pm, 11th placed Vere United on 19 points will take on second placed Arnett Gardens on 51 points before leaders Mount Pleasant on 61 points tackle third placed Montego Bay United on 49 points at 7:30 pm.
