Paris St-Germain added another title to their impressive year after edging Brazilian giants Flamengo on penalties to win the Intercontinental Cup final in Qatar.
Goalkeeper Matvey Safonov was the hero of the night, stopping four penalties in a row to seal the victory. PSG struck first late in the first half when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia slipped free at the back post and turned in a low cross from Desire Doue. Flamengo responded after the break, with Jorginho calmly converting from the penalty spot to bring the match level.
Despite chances at both ends, neither side could find a winner in normal time or extra time. PSG pushed harder late on, especially after Ousmane Dembele came off the bench, but Flamengo goalkeeper Agustin Rossi stood firm.
The final was decided from the spot, where Safonov stole the spotlight by denying four Flamengo attempts. Vitinha and Nuno Mendes kept their nerve to hand the French champions a 2–1 shootout win and their sixth trophy of the year.
