The Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) is calling for a closer alignment between Jamaica’s education system and industry needs.
This call came from president Metry Seaga, who was speaking at a press conference at the PSOJ’s headquarters on Thursday (February 15).
“The private sector is calling for closer alignment between Jamaica’s education system and the industry needs, emphasising tailored curriculum and training in high demands areas with digital technology, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing being the focus,” Seaga urged.
He said promoting partnerships between educational institutions and businesses fosters practical training while bridging the gap between education and employment for students.
“We need to ensure that people get practical training and can earn a livable wage whilst they are being trained. The private sector is leading by investing in employee upskilling, enhancing productivity and promoting a culture of continuous learning and adaptation,” Seaga added.
Seaga further stressed that the training of employees in the right areas is the key to the growth of the private sector.
