Kingsley Cooper, respected Jamaican attorney, businessman, fashion pioneer and founder of Pulse Investments Limited, passed away at the age of 71 late Tuesday evening (June 18).
Cooper, who was being treated at an undisclosed hospital in Florida, was reportedly in serious condition for several weeks up to his death.
He co-founded the Pulse entertainment brand in December 1979 alongside Hilary Phillips.
He was born in Kingston on June 3, 1953, and spent his formative years being educated at Kingston College.
Cooper later matriculated at the University of the West Indies and the Norman Manley Law School.
He was a practising attorney between 1975 and 1980 before moving on to Pulse.
The company, which revolutionised and set a new standard for Caribbean fashion and entertainment, was listed on the Jamaica Stock Exchange in the mid-2000s.
Over the decades, Pulse has cemented itself as a regional power in model agency representation, multi-media production, marketing, show production and promotion. It later branched into the real estate market with Villa Ronia properties, through leasehold sub-letting.
Pulse owns and operates its own studio, filming and editing facilities as well as its shoot locations.
He is survived by his daughter Safia Cooper, current CEO of Pulse Investments Limited.
NB: A previous version of this article erroneously stated that Pulse Investments Limited first listed on the Jamaica Stock Exchange in the mid-1980s.
