Jamaican industry and the motoring public face higher prices at the pumps this week, following the latest regimen update from State-owned refinery Petrojam.

Petrojam, in its closely watched petroleum product price index, slapped J$3.06 on 87-octane gasolene prices, to open as a new baseline of J$162.22 per litre effective midnight, Thursday (August 28).

The sweeping price increase was consistent across the refinery’s fuel commodity index, excluding asphalt, which fell J$2.37 for a second consecutive week.

Increases were the most pronounced for 87- and 90-octane gasolene, automotive diesel and ultra-low-sulphur counterpart and kerosene oil, each rising J$3,06, J$2.84, J$2.77 and J$2.75, respectively.

It is expected that retailers will add their respective mark-ups to the announced prices.
