Jamaican motorists and industry interests will pay more at the pumps as state-owned refinery Petrojam increased baseline fuel costs for a sixth consecutive week.

Petrojam, in its closely watched petroleum product price index, attributed the ongoing price volatility to the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict raging in the Middle East.

Jamaica’s sole refinery raised 87-octane gasolene prices by J$4.50, which will be offered at J$167.88 per litre effective midnight Thursday (March 26).

Fuel outputs across the Petrojam index all faced price increases this week; most pronounced for 87- and 90-octane gasolene, automotive diesel and its ultra-low sulphur diesel counterpart, asphalt, kerosene and heavy fuel oils, which rose J$4.50, respectively.

Domestic fuel retailers and marketing companies are expected to place their own markups on the introductory prices.
