Britain’s Queen Elizabeth.

The People’s National Party (PNP) has expressed its “sincerest condolences” to the House of Windsor and the people of the United Kingdom on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

In a statement this afternoon, the PNP noted that the Queen was the oldest and longest reigning monarch of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Nations, of which Jamaica is a part.

Queen Elizabeth passed away peacefully at Balmoral Castle in Scotland today (September 8), surrounded by members of the Royal Family.

“During her lifetime, the Queen visited Jamaica six times along with several other members of the Royal Family,” the PNP recalled.

“For many all around the globe, she has been a symbol of decency, stability and continuity.”

“During these Royal Visits, the Queen participated in significant milestones in Jamaica’s history, such as the opening of the Norman Manley Law School, which officially began operations in 1973.”

The party added: “Many Jamaicans held the Queen in very high esteem, and her passing has been met by an outpouring of tributes. For many all around the globe, she has been a symbol of decency, stability and continuity.”

The Queen, who was the Head of State of Jamaica, and was represented in Jamaica by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, is succeeded by her eldest son, who will now be known as King Charles III.
