With 10 women DJs from three countries spinning an energising mix of Afro-house, Latin house, dub house and Amapiano, Sankofa Sessions kicks off its ‘Queens of the Deck’ monthly summer series at DiBar in New Kingston this Saturday (June 22).

This multi-sensory event series, spearheaded by DJ founder and event curator Iset Sankofa, offers a mesmerising fusion of  Afrohouse dance parties, social gatherings, live music, and live art reminiscent of UK’s Boiler Room, AfroPunk and Tomorrowland.

“Sankofa Sessions is for people who crave something a bit different as we play what’s often not played here, and remix the rest,” said Sankofa.

The ‘Queens of the Deck’ summer series kicks off with DJ Lytes-Tandra Jhagroo, a Canadian-Jamaican audio engineer and founder of Zen Studio, who has mixed tracks from everyone from the late Amy Winehouse, Seanpaul, Shaggy and Drake.

Since 2014, Sankofa Sessions has become the heartbeat of the Afrohouse and art movement in Jamaica’s culture capital.

Also known for its electrifying mashups and remixes of popular tracks, the event delivers a captivating blend of Afrohouse and electronic dance music. Attendees are treated to performances by both headlining and fast-rising DJs, making each event a memorable experience.

With over 200 events to date, Sankofa Sessions has shared its platform with more than 80 guest DJs from Jamaica, London, Pakistan, and Miami and provided a creative space for 60 visual artists, contributing to the remarkable vibrancy that has attracted thousands of creatives, dancers, party goers, and house music lovers.
