Racers Grand Prix chairman Glen Mills has announced the appointment of Devon Blake as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the track and field event, in a strategic move aimed at enhancing the organisational structure.

Mills expressed confidence in Blake’s ability to contribute significantly to the growth and success of the Racers Grand Prix. In a statement to the organising committee, Mills stated: “I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Devon Blake to the post of chief executive officer of the Racers Grand Prix. Mr. Blake’s appointment is designed to reduce the workload and responsibilities of the chairman. He will carry out his responsibilities under the supervision of the chairman and report to him at all times during his tenure.”

Blake, a well-regarded figure in the field of sports administration and management, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. As a motivational speaker, customer service trainer, and selling skills trainer, Blake has already made significant contributions to the Racers Track Club, where he served as the technical director in 2020 and social media manager since 2022.

His previous role on the Racers Grand Prix management team saw him overseeing operations of social media, ticket, ushers, and gate management operations, along with magazine production.

Blake’s new responsibilities as CEO of the Racers Grand Prix will include improving revenue intake from sponsorship and gate receipts, making recommendations on cost reduction for staging the meet, overseeing ticket production and sales promotion, integrating technology to improve fan engagement, as well as undertaking specific assignments within the Technical Committee.

Blake, expressing enthusiasm for the new role, said: “I am honoured to take on the role of CEO for the Racers Grand Prix. This event holds a special place in the world of track and field, and I am committed to working closely with Chairman Mills and the entire organising committee to elevate the meet to even greater heights.”

Mills echoed his excitement, stating: “Mr. Blake’s wealth of experience and proven track record make him the ideal candidate to lead the Racers Grand Prix into a new era. I have full confidence in his ability to enhance the event’s success and contribute to the development of athletics in Jamaica and beyond.”

The next staging of the Racers Grand Prix is scheduled for June 1, 2024.
