Emma Raducanu says she must bring a far more aggressive approach if she wants to challenge the world’s top players after a swift defeat at Indian Wells.

The British star was swept aside in just 52 minutes by American sixth seed Amanda Anisimova, who powered to a 6-1, 6-1 win to book her place in the fourth round in California. Anisimova, who finished runner-up at both Wimbledon and the US Open last year, took control from the very first game.

Raducanu lost her serve immediately and struggled to find rhythm, managing only 11 points during the opening set. The second set began in a similar fashion as she quickly fell 3-0 behind before finally holding serve.

The 2021 US Open champion is still searching for consistency after splitting with coach Francisco Roig in January. She has since brought in Mark Petchey on a temporary basis while working to rediscover the natural style that once carried her to a historic Grand Slam title.

Raducanu had looked more comfortable in the previous round with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Anastasia Zakharova, but against Anisimova, she had little chance to settle into rallies, with most points ending quickly.

Anisimova now moves on to face 19-year-old Canadian tenth seed Victoria Mboko in the round of 16.
