Raheem Sterling arrested on suspicion of drug-driving

Former Jamaican-born England internationalm Raheem Sterling has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after allegedly being involved in a road collision.

The 31-year-old Sterling from Berkshire was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, driving dangerously, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen. His arrest came after a Lamborghini collided with barriers on the M3 in Hampshire on Thursday morning.

The Dutch football side Feyenoord winger has been bailed out while an investigation is ongoing. The Hampshire Police statement given to The Athletic read: “Just before 9 am on Thursday, we received reports that a Lamborghini was in collision with barriers on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange. No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.”

Sterling’s representatives declined to make a statement when contacted by The Athletic. The forward joined Feyenoord in February after a mutual agreement was reached to terminate his Chelsea contract 18 months early. He made eight Eredivisie appearances for the Dutch club during the second half of the 2025-26 season.

Sterling made 396 Premier League appearances after breaking through at Liverpool and moving to Manchester City in 2015, winning four English top-flight titles. He joined Chelsea from City in the summer of 2022 for £47.5 million ($65.5m). 

He spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Arsenal but fell out of favour under former head coach Enzo Maresca on his return. Sterling was capped 82 times by England between 2012 and 2022, scoring 20 goals.
