In a touching tribute to his late friend, Steffie Gregg, England’s Raheem Sterling on Thursday (September 2) dedicated his World Cup qualifier win over Hungary, stating, “This one was for you SVG.”

As he celebrated putting England ahead in their World Cup qualifier match against Hungary, Sterling ripped off his shirt to unveil a vest with the words “Love You Forever Steffie Gregg” printed on it.

Steffie Gregg is understood to have been a childhood friend of Sterling, who was born in Jamaica.

Reports are that Gregg died in Miami on Tuesday (August 31) as a result of COVID-19 complications.

The 26-year-old Jamaican socialite was the daughter of former race car driver Gary Gregg and niece of Jamaican producer Rvssian, and leaves many heartbroken friends and family. She reportedly died of complications related to COVID-19.

Sterling’s tribute is understood to have been a personal choice, as he had been hard hit by the death of Gregg in recent days.
