Rain has forced the abandonment of the fourth T20I between New Zealand and the West Indies after 6.3 overs, with the West Indies reaching 38-1 at the Saxton Oval on Sunday night.

The no-result meant the visiting West Indies cannot win the five-match series, currently trailing 1-2 with only one game remaining.

Fresh from the 3-0 series win over Bangladesh, the West Indies won the first T20I match against New Zealand but subsequently lost the last two games and were hoping to level the series on Sunday.

The host won the toss and asked West Indies to bat, and they got off to a decent start, reaching 38 before Amir Jangoo skied an effort in the seventh over and went for 12 from 18 balls.

Alick Athanaze was left 21 not out, inclusive of two sixes and a four and was at the crease with skipper Shai Hope on three not out from three balls when the rains came. James Neesham took the only wicket to fall for five runs from his one over.

The fifth and final game will be played on Wednesday, November 12, with the West Indies aiming to win and tie the series at 2-2, while New Zealand will be hoping to wrap up the series emphatically.

The West Indies had won the first game by seven runs, then New Zealand captured the second by three runs and the third by nine runs as the team batting first won all the games.
