Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Karina Powell-Hood, has described the opening of the newly rebuilt Little London Police Station in Westmoreland as a significant milestone in strengthening public safety and resilience across the parish.
Speaking during the official opening ceremony on November 28, Powell-Hood underscored the station’s strategic importance in maintaining continuity of policing services following Hurricane Melissa.
“The completion and commissioning of the Little London Police Station stands as a powerful statement of preparedness, continuity and resilience, ensuring that policing services in this area remain strong, functional and responsive despite the challenges faced,” she said.
The deputy commissioner commended members of the Westmoreland Police Division for their dedication and strong performance during a challenging period.
“The team here has responded and rallied so well to continue serving the communities. Despite the many challenges that we face with the facilities, the team has rallied well,” she said.
DCP Karina Powell-Hood also highlighted the impressive crime reduction statistics recorded in the Division.
“At this point in time, we’re experiencing a 59 per cent reduction in murders. We’re experiencing a 45 per cent reduction in shootings and an overall 46 per cent reduction in major crimes. Thanks to the police and certainly to the residents, the citizens in Westmoreland, and for the persons in Little London for continuing to support the team here,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Powell-Hood underscored the forward-thinking features integrated into the station.
“The inclusion of the solar-powered and water-harvesting systems… reflects a forward-thinking approach to sustainability and resilience in public infrastructure, and we are happy to be at the forefront of that as the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). [The] station serves as a beacon of hope, trust and progress for generations to come,” she said.

Powell-Hood extended heartfelt gratitude to all partners whose contributions ensured the success of the project.
“We commend the Ministry of National Security and Peace, our partners at the National Housing Trust (NHT) and all our stakeholders who collaborated with the strategic partnership to make the project a reality,” she stated.
“To the men and women who will serve from this station, may this space inspire professionalism, compassion and excellence in your duty to protect and serve. To the residents of Little London and surrounding communities, this station stands as a renewed pledge of safety, stability and partnership. Together we continue to build safer communities and a stronger Jamaica,” the deputy commissioner added.
