Despite months of unexpected delays, publicly listed company Regency Petroleum Limited (RPL) is finally fulfilling its promise to shareholders and the local community with the grand opening of its second service station in Paradise, Westmoreland.

The company broke ground for the station in the second quarter of 2022 and was able to complete the project with funding from last December’s initial public offering on the Jamaica Stock Exchange.

With this milestone, RPL is yet another step closer to establishing its vision of becoming the country’s leading petroleum provider.  To this end, the  24/7 service station, which will serve motorists and pedestrians traversing the Savanna-la-Mar area, is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including advanced fuel-dispensing technology, an EV charging station, and a spacious full-service café that can be used as a workspace.

In expressing his enthusiasm at the opening ceremony on Wednesday (August 16), RPL Founder and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Williams said, “I know many persons, myself included, would have been anticipating the opening of this station.  That was, unfortunately, delayed due to reasons outside of our control.”

Also sharing the moment are Williams’ two sons, daughter and wife.

He added: “Notwithstanding this, I am happy today to finally see this vision realised and look forward to delighting our customers with an unparalleled service experience.”

Incentivised Customers

Williams also disclosed that, aside from the use of modern technology in the form of fireproof tanks and automatic tank gauges, the station will be set apart from others of the like by the inclusion of an RPL-owned coffee shop named ‘Café Parfait’.  It is in addition to the traditional convenience store and will serve the needs of customers on the go, as well as those looking for a quiet working environment.

Beyond the station’s unique, contemporary design and amenities, Williams noted that customers will be incentivised to keep coming back by the intangible element of superior customer service.  The RPL CEO said, “In preparation for this station’s opening, we actually emphasised heavily on customer service and ensured that all our staff received the necessary training.”

In addition to its primary role as a fueling station, with a strong focus on community engagement, the new establishment is positioning itself to become an integral part of the local ecosystem in the Savanna-la-Mar area as it will generate employment opportunities for some 24 residents and contribute to the economic growth of the surrounding areas.

Speaking at the station’s opening ceremony on Wednesday, Minister of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport Daryl Vaz expressed his congratulations to the Regency Petroleum team noting that the station’s opening was “an important milestone in the deepening of energy solutions in the western end of the island”.

He added that the station’s opening “represents a substantial investment in the local community, contributing to the economic progress of the parish, enhancing transportation connectivity, and addressing the energy needs of the area.”
