Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz reignited their World Cup hope with an impressive 4-0 win over Bermuda at the National Stadium and jumped back to the top of Group B with their destiny back in their hands.
This was Jamaica’s third win from four games, and they returned to the summit of Group B with nine points, one ahead of Curacao, which were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Trinidad and Tobago and slipped to second with eight points.
Trinidad and Tobago are third on five points and still in contention with two sets of games remaining. Bermuda are the only team out of the running, sitting at the bottom, pointless.
With the Curacao game starting one hour ahead of Jamaica’s game, Jamaicans were nervous when news filtered through that Curacao had taken an early lead.
But the Reggae Boyz were not perturbed and turned in their best performance for ages inside the “Office”.
Jamaica started well and their early pressure paid off courtesy of an own goal by Dante Leverock in the 24th minute, heading past his goalkeeper Dale Eve.

Then, with the Stadium buzzing, Bobby De Cordova-Reid slotted home after a brilliant work by Man of the Match Renaldo Cephas in the 26th minute.
Then, nine minutes later, Cephas tormented his defender and his cross was slid in by Shamar Nicholson at the near post in the 35th minute.
Substitute Dujuan “Whisper” Richards made some noise as he was all over the defenders and was duly rewarded with a goal in the 76th minute, driving at the defender and firing home a well-taken shot.
This was by far the best performance of the Reggae Boyz under coach Steve McClaren
On November 13, Jamaica will face Trinidad and Tobago away before hosting Curacao on the 18th in what could be a grand finale, as it has the potential to be the World Cup decider.
Jamaica are now firmly back on track to qualify for their second FIFA World Cup tournament, having first done so in 1998, some 27 years ago.
