Reggae Girl Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw returned from illness scoring twice on Wednesday (January 19) to lead Manchester City Women to a 3-1 win over Bristol City and a place in the semi-finals of the Continental League Cup.

An own goal from City’s Alex Greenwood put Bristol City ahead in the 16th minute, but Khadija Shaw equalised with a superb solo effort in the 27th minute, and again just before half-time. Vicky Losada sealed the victory when she scored in the 62nd minute.

Team manager Gareth Taylor was lauded Shaw’s performance.

“It’s great. She’s been off with COVID, so we were limited in terms of what we could do with her and her minutes and she came up against a tough opponent, the girl who played left centre back was a physical player but Bunny is physical as well,” he said.

“Sometimes it’s difficult to get the edge but the first goal she made came from nothing. It was a good pull back and finish, she had a big influence on the game.”

The striker, Jamaica’s leading goal scorer, now has eight goals in 14 appearances for Manchester City Woman this season.

Shaw joined Manchester City from Bordeaux in France during the summer.

The draw for the semi-finals is on Thursday (January 20).
