Reggae Girlz captain Khadija Shaw, who has been absent from the National team for nearly a year, scored the winner for Manchester City in their 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday.
The 28-year-old Shaw is Jamaica’s all-time leading goalscorer, male or female, with 57 goals, and Manchester City’s all-time top scorer with 67 goals.
With the scores levelled at 1-1, Shaw scored a thumping header as City overcame Everton 2-1 and jumped to the top of the English Women’s Super League with 21 points. It was City’s seventh win from eight games, and they lead Chelsea by a point.
Shaw, who hasn’t represented Jamaica since playing against South Africa in late November and early December 2024, is now the top scorer in England with five goals.
Shaw, who has twice won the Golden Boots, sits on five goals along with Manchester United’s Melvine Malard.
She finished as the league’s joint-top scorer last season with Alessia Russo on 12 goals, despite missing the end of the season with a foot injury.
Reggae Girlz head coach Hugh Busby has repeatedly left out Shaw for Jamaica’s International Friendlies, hoping she can be fully fit when the World Cup qualifiers resume shortly.
Jamaica are drawn in Group B alongside Guyana, Nicaragua, Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda. The group winner will advance to the CONCACAF Championship in an effort to qualify for the 2027 World Cup.
