Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz came from behind to beat South Africa’s Bayana Bayana 3-2 in their International Friendly at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Monday night and completed the two-games series, having won the first 3-0 on Friday.

Goals by Vyan Sampson (58th), Drew Spence (63rd) and Kayla McKenna (76th) propelled the Jamaicans to their second win over South Africa in four days.

Linda Motlhalo had given South Africa a 19th-minute lead that they held until the second half while Amogelang Motau reduced the deficit for South Africa in stoppage time.

Head Coach Hubert Busby welcomed the Reggae Girlz results, after losing 0-3 to France on October 25.

“The quick turnaround for both teams was always gonna be a little bit tedious. It’s gonna be a strain. You could see that a little bit in the first half of us trying to find our legs a bit,” Busby pointed out.

“Credit to the medical staff and high performance staff in terms of getting the players ready. But these games why we play them. We’re gonna be put in stressful situations,” he explained.

Busby made three changed to the team that won on Friday, resting Jade bailey, Siobhan Wilson and Deneisha Blackwood bring in Naya Cardoza, Vyan Sampson and Shania Hayles.

Captain Khadija Shaw once again started up front along with Shania Hayles and Jody Brown with Drew Spence, Atlanta Primus and Vyan Sampson in midfield. Liya Brooks retained her position in goal while the Swaby sister Allyson and Chantelle started at the heart of the defense with Cardoza and Konya Plumer completing the backline.

“For the first players to the 23rd player, when called upon has to be able to step up. My job and the staff’s job is to make sure that we’re evaluating everybody through this camp,” said Busby.

He continued: “ And we had a really good picture, so this provided an opportunity for us to look at some other players and that’s what really what we kept on stressing what these games are all about, is to be able to evaluate players and see what they do in stressful situations”.

The Reggae Girlz will not be in action until February during the next FIFA window as they continued their preparation for the World Cup qualifiers set for later in 2025.

Jamaica have qualified for the last two editions and are hunting a third consecutive appearance at the global spectacle.
