Jamaica were thrashed 0-4 by the United States as the Reggae Girlz winless run against the Americans continued in their international friendly match at the Energiser Park, in St Louis, Missouri on Tuesday (June 3).
Two goals each by Ally Sentnor (19th minute, 28th) and Lynn Biyendolo (60th, 88th) led the Americans to their sixth consecutive victory over Jamaica.
The Reggae Girlz threw in a clinker and were never competitive, which should be worrying for the coaching staff, despite them playing arguably the best team in the world.
Jamaica have never contained the US to below four goals in all their meetings, with the highest being a 0-10 whipping in 1994.
It was, by and large, a comfortable and uncomplicated victory for the Americans, who defeated a poor Jamaican team without Khadija Shaw once again.
Jamaica only had two shots and none on target for the entire 90+ minutes compared to the 23 shots by the Americans, with 10 on target.
The disparity between the world number one and world number 40 was glaring as the USA had 83 per cent possession and 740 passes compared to Jamaica’s 155 passes. The Reggae Girlz didn’t even earn a corner kick.
Head coach Hugh Busby and his assistant Deon Burton will have a lot to fix as they prepare to play an England team ranked fourth in the world on June 29 at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.
With Busby absent because of a personal matter, Burton said he was fairly pleased with the Reggae Girlz’ display.
“Well, we knew it was gonna be a tough, tough match playing against the number one team in the world,” said Burton. “But I think, the just disappointing aspect, was probably just how we concede the goals,” he added.
“So, I’m overall pleased with how it was. It was a tough night, obviously, and we defended very well at times. We just needed that little bit of grit,” he explained. “They worked so hard out there, and that’s what it’s gonna take. And if we can keep up that determination and that hard work, it’s only gonna bode well for the future when it comes to the World Cup qualifiers.”
