Dancehall top-tier female entertainer Spice is no longer a self-proclaimed queen of dancehall. At night one of Reggae Sumfest on Friday (July 22), she was crowned queen of dancehall by Downsound CEO Josef Bogdanovich, followed by the revelation of her upcoming album Emancipation.
She was presented with a diamond-crusted tiara, signifying her title as a heavyweight champ within the industry.
Her crowning was delayed for two years as a result of the global pandemic. Marion Hall, formerly known as Lady Saw, now turned Christian, previously held the prestigious title and was crowned back in 2012.
“How long ago was Lady Saw on our stage? How long ago was that? That’s a long time ago. And to be able to go on this journey for so long to make it where you’ve made it… good luck to everybody else,” The Downsound CEO said in handing over the crown.
The album is set to release next month on August 19 by UnitedMasters. The carefully crafted album and title signify her divorce from VP records.

In addition to her crowning, in a genius entertainment strategy, the dancehall superstar also used her platform to have a candour conversation with Prime Minister Andrew Holness about her discontent with his views on some dancehall songs.
“Mr BroGad, I wanna reason with you tonight and when mi reason with you tonight mi waan ensure seh police stop harass the poor,” she said.
As fans shouted, they were treated to songs from her hit selection including Romping Shop, Send It Out, Sheet, and many more.
