More than 30 years have passed since the world lost Selena Quintanilla.
On March 31, 1995, the Grammy-winning star was murdered by Yolanda Saldívar, the president of her fan club and manager of her boutiques.
The tragedy unfolded after Selena confronted Saldívar over missing funds; as Selena turned to leave, Saldívar shot her in the back.
Sentenced to life in prison, Saldívar became eligible for parole in March 2025 but was ultimately denied.
Selena’s death devastated the industry and the fans who had watched her grow from a child performer in Selena y Los Diños to a major star. Today, her family and her husband, Chris Pérez, continue to honor her legacy through a dedicated museum, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and annual tributes that ensure the “Queen of Tejano” is never forgotten.
