Restaurants of Jamaica (ROJ), the operators of KFC and Pizza Hut, are once again championing the fight against breast cancer.

They have stepped up as sponsors of the 2024 Insurance Company of the West Indies Limited (ICWI)/Jamaica Reach to Recovery Pink Run (JR2R), reinforcing their dedication to supporting this vital cause.

Hosted annually in support of breast cancer patients, this year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, October 27, 2024, starting at the Emancipation Park. The Pink Run aims to raise critical funds to assist women battling breast cancer in accessing life-saving tests and treatments.

As a committed advocate for community health, Restaurants of Jamaica has committed a sponsorship package of $300,000 in cash and meals towards this year’s Pink Run that continues to unite Jamaicans in the fight against breast cancer.

In Jamaica, breast cancer accounts for 35 per cent of all cancers among women, affecting 71 in every 100,000 women. The wide age range—from women under 20 to those in their 20s, 30s, and 40s—demonstrates the urgency of raising awareness and providing support.

The Pink Run is a much-anticipated annual 5K walk/run dedicated to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer patients. All proceeds will help women access essential medical services, including screenings and treatments that they might not be able to afford.

This year’s theme, “Miles of Hope,” highlights the resilience of those fighting breast cancer, as well as survivors and their families, reflecting the support of the broader Jamaican community.

“This annual event not only raises awareness about the importance of early detection, but it also provides tangible support to those brave women battling breast cancer, helping them access the treatments they need to overcome. We are committed to being a part of this life-saving initiative.”

In 2023, the Pink Run attracted over 9,000 participants. With increased corporate backing, this year’s event is expected to have an even greater impact. Beyond the financial contribution, ROJ
will also participate with a team in the run, further cementing their dedication to the cause.

The Pink Run represents hope, resilience, and community support for breast cancer patients. We encourage everyone to come out, whether to run, walk, or lend their support in whatever way they can. President of Jamaica Reach to Recovery, Sandra Samuels, expressed gratitude for Restaurants of Jamaica’s generous support.

She noted that their donation of meals for volunteers not only acknowledges their efforts but also reduces financial strain, allowing more funds to be directed towards breast cancer patients. Additionally, the financial backing and proceeds from the ROJ team’s registration will significantly enhance their ability to provide essential services, such as medication, CT scans, and chemotherapy.

“This is a service to the women of Jamaica. The contributions you make will save lives. The Pink Run is very important because every family has been touched by breast cancer.
