Christian Tavares-Finson and Demetri Adams, lawyers representing Ribbiz Lounge Limited, have put out a statement addressing the killing of Ribbiz Ultra Lounge worker Jermaine Richards last Thursday morning.

Richards was shot to death by an off-duty policeman in the car park of Ardenne Emirates last Thursday morning.

This killing has elicited a lot of speculation and questions are being asked. Relatives, friends and associates of Richards are upset and some have made their views known. INDECOM is now investigating the matter.

The facts of this case will become clear in due time.

Bellow is Tavares-Finson Adams’ statement:

It is with deep regret and sadness that we acknowledge the unfortunate and truly tragic death of Mr Jermaine Richards, former employee of client, Ribbiz Lounge Limited, which occurred on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at approximately 4:10 am in the parking lot at Ardenne Emirates, located at 7-9 Ardenne Road, Kingston 10, in the parish of Saint Andrew.

While we understand the pain and anguish caused by this tragedy, we encourage all concerned parties to exercise caution and sensitivity in their statements during this difficult time. Speculation and misinformation will only serve to exacerbate an already delicate situation.

We have taken note of the various versions of events that have been circulating on social media platforms. While we recognise and appreciate the strong emotions surrounding this incident, we must emphasise that some of the remarks being made are inaccurate and defamatory.

The public can be assured that our client is deeply committed to supporting the ongoing investigations. To this end, we wish to highlight that our client and its staff have been fully cooperative with both the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM). We remain confident that these authorities will diligently carry out their work and we urge the public to allow due process of law to unfold.

Based on our instructions and analysis of this matter, at this stage, we wish to make clear and indicate that none of the Directors of Ribbiz Lounge Limited was present at the premises when the incident occurred and that the alleged shooter was not employed nor contracted to our client’s company but was a patron at the Lounge that morning. More importantly, at the material time of the incident, the Lounge was closed.

On behalf of our client, we again extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Mr Richards. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this challenging period of grief and bereavement. The Directors and Management of Ribbiz Lounge Limited remain committed to transparency and accountability as we await the outcome of the official investigations.
