President of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Michael Ricketts, who was appointed to FIFA’s Grassroots and Amateur Football Committee, believes this appointment is a positive one for Jamaica.

“I will be the deputy chair of the FIFA Grassroots Amateur Football committee. Very interesting, we were just excited at the prospects, we believe that this is an opportunity to serve our country, and just absolutely delighted,” he told Our Today.

Two other Jamaicans joined Ricketts—Rudolph Speid, who was appointed to FIFA’s Technical Development Committee, and Carlene Edwards, FIFA Women’s National Team Competitions Committee.

“At the FIFA Council meeting, a number of standing committees were put in place. Jamaica were fortunate to have gotten three persons on the respective Standing Committees,” said a doting Ricketts.

“Having had discussions with the other two persons, we are intending on growing the sport in our own country, and it is certainly an opportunity to continue the process of doing so,” he added.

“This will give us an opportunity to sit with senior people in football around the world and exchange ideas, and we will be hoping  that it will positively influence our own efforts as we try to grow the sport,” he continued

“We are simply delighted and most importantly, we are getting a chance to showcase our own country,” Ricketts concluded.
