Rihanna is facing heavy backlash from Twitter users after it was announced that Johnny Depp would do a cameo appearance in the “star” segment of her upcoming Savage X Fenty fashion show.
Depp will not walk the runway, but will be the first male to be included in the show, wearing pieces from the Fenty’s men’s collection.
After the official announcement was made by the lingerie brand, Twitter users voiced their disapproval about Rihanna’s decision to feature the actor in the show.
Several users referred to Depp as an abuser, and made note of information that surfaced during his defamation case with ex- wife Amber Heard earlier this year.
Heard published an op- ed for the Washington Post in 2018 where she portrayed Depp as an abuser.

Though she did not mention him by name, Depp’s team argued enough information was revealed that led readers to suspect she was referring to him and he filed a defamation claim.
During the court proceedings, the 59-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean actor was accused of sexual assault by Heard’s lawyer.
Depp’s team argued that the accusation were false and defamatory, and claimed Heard was the abusive person in the relationship.

The case ended with Heard being asked to pay Depp US$22 million for revenue lost due to the allegations.
But, despite winning the case, many people on Twitter said they believe he was abusive to Heard and Rihanna should not support an abuser.
Some went as far as to bring up a previous case of domestic violence between Rihanna and l then-boyfriend Chris Brown.
They shared that they were disappointed and shocked that the Rude Boy artiste would support Depp, given her own history with domestic violence.

However, the Barbadian singer and national hero has received some support from fans who approve of her decision, applauding her for supporting a fellow domestic violence survivor.
Rihanna nor the Savage X Fenty team have responded to any of the comments.
Here is how some people on Twitter reacted to the news.
We do not support abusers. We won’t be watching the show.

You need to cut him out @rihanna @SavagexFenty.
I can’t help but feel like Rihanna has a history of abuse sympathising because she’s been rewarded in the past for doing exactly that. It is drilled into her that she gets to keep her career, she gets praise and the tabloids and the horrible comments stop when she excuses abuse.

Rihanna is a strong, independent, successful, talented woman & a survivor of domestic abuse.

She said #IStandWithJohnnyDepp, a man & a survivor of domestic abuse.

I’ve been following Rihanna since she debuted in 2005 and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. I remember reading her story and I’ve supported her ever since. I’m so proud of her. Seeing her supporting Johnny Depp like this warms my heart. She knows a survivor when she sees one
