Rihanna released Born Again today (November 11), her second single from the soundtrack to Marvel superhero movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is now open in theatres.

The song is a ballad that highlights the soft but strong vocals of the Barbadian singer over a piano and strings with some dramatic flares towards the end.

It is also a tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman and his character, T’Challa, in the film.

The song fittingly addresses the feeling associated with grief and the lengths that people dealing with the loss of a loved one will go to, just to see their face again.

In verse two of the song, Rihanna sings: “I’d give my whole soul and whatever it takes, never run away.
And I’d relive this just to see your face again.”

She also expresses that she will do whatever it takes and has “enough angels to storm the gates” of what is presumed to be Heaven, and she is not afraid to do so, as long as she gets to see his face again.

Released early this morning, the song had almost 400,000 views on YouTube after just 11 hours and with the numbers growing by the seconds.

Born Again follows her comeback, Lift Me Up, and her announcement that she is to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show early next year.

Also constructed in the form of an emotional ballad, Lift Me Up debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it was released on October 28, 2022.
