RIU Hotels & Resorts has announced a detailed recovery plan for its Jamaica properties in the wake of Hurricane Melissa, confirming that all guests and staff remain safe and accounted for.
According to the hotel chain, its current recovery strategy includes the reopening of Riu Negril on November 15, Riu Montego Bay on November 20, and Riu Palace Aquarelle on December 15.
The company said these timelines reflect its strong commitment to restoring community activity as quickly as possible while maintaining close coordination with tour operation partners and continuously monitoring the situation across the island.
Riu Ocho Rios, which was the least impacted by the storm, will remain open. Sales are scheduled to resume this Sunday, November 9, allowing employees to return to work and helping to revive tourism in the less-affected areas.

RIU also confirmed that all remaining guests in the destination are safely housed at the Riu Ocho Rios and Riu Montego Bay hotels. “We are relieved to confirm that all guests and the entire RIU team are safe and sound,” the company said.
In a show of solidarity, additional RIU professionals from Mexico, the United States, and Spain have arrived in Jamaica to strengthen and support local operations. This includes technical specialists who are conducting detailed assessments of the facilities and have already begun repair work.
At the same time, the distribution of essential aid packages to employees is underway. The company said it is finalising plans to roll out broader initiatives aimed at supporting both staff and the surrounding communities, focusing primarily on food assistance and housing reconstruction.
RIU expressed gratitude for the overwhelming offers of help received from repeat guests, business partners, and colleagues around the world. The company added that it is working to establish a formal mechanism to channel donations, alongside its own significant direct contribution to relief efforts.
