Ralford Mullings is quickly soothing the pain of Jamaica losing Olympic champion Roje Stona to Turkiye, beating him once again at the Oklahoma Throwers Series #30 on Saturday.

Jamaicans have been up in arms when it was discovered that four of the country’s best field event athletes, including three Olympic medallists, would be switching allegiance to Turkiye.

But the 22-year-old Mullings threw a massive 72.01m to erase Fedrick Dacres’ 2019 record of 70.78m done at the Morocco Diamond League.

The 26-year-old Stona, who won the 2024 Olympic gold in an Olympic record 70.00m, was second behind Mullings with a personal best 70.17m.

Mullings, the 2023 NACAC Under-23 champion, has been in good form, winning the 2025 NCAA title, beating the world record holder Mykolas Alekna of Lithuania in the process.

The Kingston College grad, now at the University of Oklahoma, has jumped to fourth in the world and sits behind Alekna (75.56m), Matthew Denny (74.78m) of Australia and Kristjan Ceh (72.36m) of Slovenia.

The next best Jamaican is Dacres at 35th, who just won the NACAC title with 65.10m. Trevor Gunzell is at 50th with a best of 63.88m.

Mullings will enter the World Championship as Jamaica’s premier discus thrower, and all eyes will be on him to get on the podium.
