
The Jamaican stock market experienced a roller coaster first week of trading for 2022 with the market continuing from where it left off in 2021 with a lacklustre performance.
The market closed the first week last Friday at 398,168.83 points having started the week at 396,155.61 points. The market advanced three times last week but declined two times as stock prices meandered throughout the trading week.
The Jamaica Stock Exchange main index advanced by 4,165.18 points last Monday, the first trading day of 2022 to close at 400,320.79 but declined the following day by 3,923.09 points to close at 396,397.70. In Wednesday’s trading session, the index advanced by 2,394.62 points to close at 398,792.32 and advancing by 1,860.79 points to close the following day at 400,653.11.
However, the market again declined by 2,484.28 points to close the first trading week last Friday at 398,168.83 points. The start to this week of trading was positive with the JSE index advanced by 1,784.89 points to close at 399,953.72.
In yesterday’s trading session, the JSE index again declined; this time by 2,598.25 points to close at 397,355.47.
