Beloved reggae artiste Romain Virgo continues to make strides in reggae music so much so his album The Gentle Man has been shortlisted for Grammy consideration.

The prestigious recognition adds to his successful “The Gentle Man” tour and the birth of his first son in October, and he believes, it is the reward for his hard work and contribution to reggae music over the year.

“It really means a lot for The Gentle Man to be among the 75 albums up for Grammy consideration. I’ve been in the industry for over a decade, trying to represent the essence of reggae music and what it should really feel like. If we receive this Grammy nomination, it would be proof to myself and my team that all the hard work we put in over the years was truly worth it. It would also be more motivation for the ones who paved the way for us and also the upcoming creators to know that the genre is still alive and can only get better,” Virgo shared.

After touring across Jamaica, Europe, and the US., “The Gentle Man” tour, which began in Jamaica in March and concluded in New York in late August, marked Virgo’s triumphant return to live performances after years of limited shows.

“It’s very refreshing to be back on the road touring again. This tour definitely boosts my confidence for the years ahead,” he said.

Virgo’s tour solidified his position as one of reggae’s finest modern voices, performing at sold-out venues in Brooklyn and headlining major European festivals such as Rototom and SummerJam.

“I’ve never seen this wave of support for my albums. It’s proof that this is undoubtedly a powerful body of work. This album reflects my personal and musical journey. I’ve spent years searching for my sound and identity, and this project proves I’ve found it,” Virgo admitted.

Hailed by music critic Pat Meschino as one of the finest releases of 2024, The Gentle Man has kept reggae’s rich legacy alive. As a Johnnie Walker brand ambassador, Virgo’s journey in the music industry embodies the brand’s mantra of “Keep Walking”.

Virgo’s connection with his fans has never been stronger, with the tour’s Jamaica leg standing out as a particular highlight.

“The tour was super special—doing three back-to-back shows and receiving an overwhelming level of support in every location, especially the added fourth show, the grand finale in Kingston.”

In August, Virgo was also honoured with the Artiste of the Year—Male (Reggae) award at the Caribbean Music Awards and featured on the cover of Riddim Magazine’s September 2024 edition, further solidifying his contributions to Jamaican culture.

“Receiving awards is more than just about the music—it’s about being seen and heard for the work we’ve been doing. It’s motivation to keep going and ensure that the genre continues to thrive,” he says.

Now, he reflects on his artistic achievements while celebrating a profoundly personal milestone—the birth of his first son in October, making him a father of three. Fatherhood, like his music, has been transformative.

“When my daughters were born, it brought a new focus, knowing I’m living for more than myself. Now, with my son, I’m reliving that all over again, and I believe my creativity can only improve from here.”

While balancing family life with his musical ambitions, Virgo continues to stand as a beacon for the next generation.

Reflecting on his career, his role as a father, and the possibility of a Grammy nomination, Virgo hopes to remain an inspiring figure.

“I would hope that my life as a father and a musician will remain positive and powerful enough to make the next generation realise that standing on integrity in all aspects of life is what matters most after all is said and done,” he affirmed.
