With Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo set to earn US$125 million from on-field earnings and endorsements this year, following his return to Old Trafford, the legendary striker has become the highest-paid soccer player, out-earning current Paris Saint-German’s Lionel Messi.
According to Forbes magazine, Ronaldo is this year set to surpass Messi as the highest-paid soccer player, thanks to his earnings of US$70 million in wages and a whopping US$55 million from endorsement deals.

Ronaldo, who is the first team-sport athlete ever to make more than US$1 billion in pre-tax career earnings leads Messi who despite a new three-year endorsement deal with Budweiser, now holds second place with US$110 million after his summer move to PSG, where he earns US$75 million in on-field earnings and US$35 million in endorsements.
Neymar Jr, who comes in at third on the list with US$95 million, makes more than Ronaldo on the field but pales in comparison with endorsements.
PSG currently holds three of the world’s four highest-paid players with Kylian Mbappé earning US$43 million a year, rounding out the top four highest-paid soccer players list.
