Jamaican athlete and world Under-20 record holder Roshawn Clarke is among three athletes who are shortlisted for World Athletics’ 2023 Men’s Rising Star Award.
Clarke, who is a junior 400m hurdles athlete, equalled and then broke the world Under-20 record with 47.85 seconds in Kingston, and an impressive 47.34 seconds in Budapest last August. His world record was ratified by the World Athletics last month.
He is the Jamaican and CARIFTA Games champion for the 400m hurdles in the junior category. Clarke also finished fourth in the 400m hurdles at the World Championships.
The other athletes who made the final include United States athlete Erriyon Knighton, the World Championship 200m silver medalist; and Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the World Championship 800m silver medallist.
The winner of the 2023 Men’s Rising Star Award will be selected by an international panel of experts and announced on World Athletics’ platforms on 11 December.
The Men’s Rising Star Award seeks to recognise junior athletes who had outstanding performances at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships Bathurst 2, one-day meeting circuits and other events around the world.
