The Saint Lucia Kings have handed the captaincy to West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase as the franchise prepares to defend its Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League title.

 The appointment comes just days before the 2026 tournament gets underway on August 7, placing one of the team’s most experienced players in charge for the new campaign.

Chase has been a key figure for the Kings over the years and enjoyed a standout CPL season in 2021, scoring 446 runs to finish as the tournament’s leading run-scorer while earning Player of the Series honours. He also played a major role in helping the franchise capture its first CPL title in 2024.

Head Coach Daren Sammy said Chase has earned the trust and respect of the dressing room through his performances, leadership and professionalism. He expressed confidence that the new captain has the experience and cricket knowledge needed to guide the team through another challenging season.

Chief Executive Officer Satish Menon also welcomed the appointment, describing Chase as one of the franchise’s most dependable players whose relationship with teammates makes him a natural leader.

The Saint Lucia Kings will begin their title defence with five home matches at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on August 12, 14, 16, 19 and 21, with each match scheduled to bowl off at 7:00 p.m.
